Pontypool is one of the few horror movie that used a little creativity and proves you don't need a high budget to a make horror film. The story circles around a local radio station and its crew of three people. As the day moves on they slowly start to here reports of violence happening all over the region. This includes riots, people killing each other and intervention from the Canadian Government. Soon they find themselves hiding in the station from the horror out side they are reporting. If that was not bad enough, they can't figure what's going on. Pontypool takes a very different and more effective way at trying to scare its audience. Most western horror these days seem to mainly focus on jump scares or brutal kill scenes alone. Pontypool on the other hand gives a few vague descriptions on what's actually going on out there. For most of the movie you really are just listening to a broadcast and testimonies of eye witness. This leaves the viewer having his own imagination working against him for a big chunk of the film. For me this was the most strongest for the first half of the film when we don't know what's causing the hysteria. I actually only have one real complaint which I felt the ending could have been better. I didn't hate the ending it just feels kind of weak compared to what we see earlier. I would go into more detail but that would results in some spoilers.
Overall it's a fun creepy horror movie that could be enjoyable for Halloween. I give it a few extra points for what they were able to pull off on a low budget and for an interesting experiment in horror.
Thats why I give this radio broadcast from hell an 8 out of 10.

Avatar has got to be the most overrated movie of all time.
By its self its just okay but not worthy of all the praise. Yes, its fun to look at but I don't care if its in 3D or using CGI. In the end it always comes back to story and that is ware it failed. This is one of the most predictable movies I have seen on the big screen. For those of you who read a lot of books or watch older films You pretty much know this story.
I know what the Avatar Fans who will thumd down this review are thinking. They are most likely thinking "But a lot of books and movies borrow from older stories" or "There no such thing as a true original story" Well this is what I have to say to them. Yes its true a lot of the things we loved were influenced by older work but they all stood on there own. When I see those character I don't see a cardboard copy and past cliché cut out like in this. Pluse there is a fine line between influenced and flat out stealing. Avatar made no attempt to stand on its own as a Story. Instead it just follows every cliché in the book.
I also have a few questions for every who loved this movie and I really want you to think about your answer. If it was a book, meaning all you had was the story, would you love it as much? If it was made on a really low budget would you love it as much? If the SFX were really poor but everything els (story, script, actors) was the same, would you love it as much? When the fad dies down and better special effects are every were all we will have left is generic scifi movie. Nothing more and nothing less.
Yes it looks great but the story, acting and duologue all suck.
There I said it! Now Bring on the Hate!!!

At first glance Elfen Lied looks likes its going to be a series that sells on shock value alone. Before seeing it I had already learned that it was filled with lots blood, gore and nudity. This put an image in my head that this is going to be a mindless action SF anime series, nothing more and nothing less. That is until I watch it and a few episodes in the unexpected happens. It turns out be a really deep and well thought out story. It still had lots of blood, gore and nudity but it dealt with tough subject matters. As the story progress it deals with themes such as bigotry, regret, hate, and even childed abuse.
The main Character Lucy/Nyu is a really interesting protagonist. Her character is kind like Dr. Jackle and Mr. Hide. Frist there is Nyu who is a girl who has horns growing out of her head and suffers from brain damage. She can barley talk and has the mind set of a little kid. She's sweet, harmless and gentle. She was found washed up on a beach naked and is taken in by Kota and Yuka after taking sympathy on her. However Nyu is only the result of series blow to the her head in attempt to kill our Mr. Hide. Lucy.
Lucy is intelligent, short tempered, violent and very dangerous. She has four extra arms that come out her back that can tare people apart like paper. Now I'm aware that I just made her sound like the villain but in truth she's really a complexes character. On the one hand Lucy dose really evil things to other people but on the other we cant help but feel sorry for her. Which is impressive because some of the thing she dose makes you really want to hate her but yet you cant. She has lots of regrets and her background just make her great tragic character.
The story its self really had me hooked. Once it started to pick up I had to see what happens next and found myself in love with it. I would go into more detail but I'm afraid I will spoil to much.
I really wanted to give the series a 10 but sadly there one flaw that really hurts it for me. The last episode.
Its doesn't suck, its actually really good. The problem is it looked like the story was not over yet. I wont give it away but its clear there were plans for another season that never went through. So if your not a fan of cliff hangers the final episode might disappoint you.
Overall, Its a great series and I loved it to death but I wish we could of gotten some more closer.
I guess I have to read the Manga now.
