Not gonna lie, while I felt like I wanted more, I am totally believing they are setting up even worse skewering ahead in future episode. Like the setup of the Island, clearly the reason they didn't address it directly is they are gonna plan to focus on the (fantasy) Island with a episode all to itself, or over many episodes as a theme etc... Either way, i'm in. Haven't been watching South Park for a decade, but I have never been so into watching every episode this year.... as Finally we see someone in a privileged position willing to not pull their punches on the lunacy that has been going on....

But the characters, especially the young cast are insuffereable. I mean let's compare to an even younger cast, in Stranger Things, who for several seasons have been brilliant, Gaten, Caleb, Millie, Finn, Natalie, and later cast like Joseph Quinn and Maya Hawk who even outsing the older cast which were also amazing, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, etc... All captivating to watch on screen, all, and this is asbolutely key, not full of some insane ego, coupled with zero redeeming qualities.

May, clearly the worst of the crew, and what is amazing is you can't tell when her character's ego stops, and the real life acrtess's begins. This is the issue with so many castings in big productions lately. They seem to confuse picking a 'diverse' cast, with picking actresses and actors with giant egos like the world owes them or something. They are given literally the chance of a lifetime, and they respond with absolutely arrogance. What happeend to humility, kindness, caring for 'others', being desirable traits. All these characters clealry only care for themselves period. When when stupidly stands on ice, and it breaks, she spends the rest of the episode being angry at her ex for it. She didn't have to come along, she invited herself literally, and she stole his fathers disks without asking. She has no redeming qualities except that she is supposedly good with computers.

Then there is Kentaro and Cate who seems to everyone they have been told their whole life in asia how good looking their are, and it seems that again, this ego they had it is hard to understand where their real life ego ends and their characters begins. To me the characters in the story would be so much more likeable without the giant egos. Exactly what makes the stranger things so amazing, and likeable. They all have quirks, they all have insecurities, and while they at times show some ego, it's clearly done almost always in humorous way, not at all serious.

And they all show admirable actions over and over again.

Honeslty when i heard Kurt Russell, monsters, creatures in the snow filled mountains of the north, etc. I was absolutely hooked already. And effects are all more than adequate, and down right awesome more times than they have the right ot be with shows like this.

So it's sad that once again they are confusing good story telling, and characters with choosing characters who are written as shallow as they are in real life...

I am still giving the show a 7, cause again, Kurt Rusell, monsters, that's always a winning combo at least on some level... too bad this time the writing wasn't anywhere near what Carpenter had for his film... 4 decades ago....

The problem with modern tv series and films is not enough diversity. It's a lack of good writing period. Cause diversity naturally flows out of great writing. And if you think diversity will somehow be more important than great writing, you get what we see over and over again now, throw away tv series and films that could have be absolutely amazing...
