I'm a fan of Glynis Johns (this was the first movie I noticed her in, another reason I love the film), and a romantic who does not like suspense about the happiness of an ending, only the details. Too many horrible things dominate the movies to suit me, when I only want entertainment, decent people as protagonists, and assurance the good guys will do okay. This movie is one of my favorites because it does all the above. Glynis is adorable, Jimmy Stewart is brave and dedicated, the plot is based on a dramatic portrayal of real engineering mysteries resolved by dedicated and brave men and women who are "not" betrayed by evil management, only faced with difficult professional and personal choices. A very satisfying movie, without danger of heart attack or more reasons to hate our fellow man. (If you've read this far, you'll like this movie.)

This was a predictable plot, but fun to watch because of the beautiful Ann Sothern and real-life boxing characters who played small roles. I particularly enjoyed seeing Eddie Simms (played Jackie-Boy Duffy) who was a journeyman fighter with a great heart. He fought about 8 rounds with Joe Louis before being knocked out in 1935 (I think these figures are about right), and asked the referee to go for a walk on the roof with him after being knocked down. There was another fighter I recognize but can't remember, whom the hero "knocked out" early on. I wish I could remember the name, because he was a great left-hook artist who would devastate the division today.
