  • not funny, not moving

It's hard to categorize this film. It's neither comedy nor drama. The film has a few comic moments, but those scenes are rather sporadic and distracting. Funny parts and serious parts are not well-connected in this film. 'About Schmidt' dealt with this problem much more skillfully. The director should have concentrated on either funny stuffs or serious stuffs. I give 3 out of 10.

  • He's a trained actor...

Although two child actresses have done a great job, the story is unconvincing. Here CG looks so fake, they shouldn't have used it. They should leave it to viewers' imagination.

Paul McGann(who played Elsie's dad)may be a trained actor, but he's been reduced to the status of a bum in this film.

  • motion sickness

This film made me sick - when I say this, it's not an idiomatic expression. I literally became sick, because of its camera work. No long shots. Lots of close-up scenes. No static shots. I easily get sick, carsick, seasick or whatever. even swings make me sick so while watching this film, I had take mint chewing gum to soothe myself.

The film itself was not as bad as people said. I haven't watched Rosetta, so I cannot make comparison but this film made me motionless while I was watching it. My eyes were fixed to the screen and I couldn't avert them. The film's ever-growing tension kept me in that way. Plus, there was no distracting music. Gourmet was so convincing that I thought he was a non-professional actor.

Overall, it was quite a watchable film.
