I am not sure why people are hating on this movie like they are. I guess maybe because they don't want drama from Rob Schneider, but give it a chance because you might just get dragged in by some so-so writing and some subtle comedy from Rob.
No, this is not the best movie ever. No, it is not. Is it funny? Yes, at times it is. It's kind of an existential slow burn subtle comedy about the surrealistic nature of life in general. Kind of a genre "genre" movie.
Who hasn't dreamed of being the chosen one, only to realize, that not only do you not want to be the chosen one, the point is moot, life has different plans for us. Life is sometimes about getting right sized and fitting in, not necessary being the star of the show.
Do our dreams mean anything, what do we find meaning in, how do we relate with our family members, our beliefs, our faith, our hopes, our prayers all the while finding humor in the absurd as we travel through time.
No, I would NOT give this a 10, not even close, but a slow burn entertaining genre flick about life and death and those that still live. Regrets, secrets, confessions, things remembered and things forgotten, a plexus of tangles and folds. I'll give it a 6.5
So, how does it end? Does Rob get the girl? Are the birds saved? Well, like in life we have to wait and see.

I didn't mind it and I didn't struggle to get through it, but I was hoping for so much more.
The original in my opinion was a 10 and few films made are as good as this timeless 80's classic.
The original is not Fellini, but you talk about entertainment. I have watched it a dozen times. Now that being said, the remake is a bland copy and more of a kids movie than a real thriller.
I did like Sam Rockwell. I like him in almost anything. He is an actor. But the script should have broken new ground, giving us something unseen, but no, it played it safe and was not even as exciting or as risqué as the first.
If you want bland and your not a person that uses anything more than salt and pepper and like your salsa from a jar, you may find this satisfying. But if you are a person that has a spice rack and likes their salsa fresh cut with a little kick, you will be so disappointed.
Watch the original for a real treat and send a message to Hollywood: Remake films that could have been better, not ones that got it right the first time.

I'd give this a six or a seven. If your looking for toilet humor that Seth is famous for, you'll probably be disappointed. There are actually jokes in this that required writing. There are still the jokes trying to get yucks with p*ss, sh*t and other ejaculated substances, but I actually thought over all it was pretty funny. I think Sarah and Neil and Giovanni could have been used more and I wish we could have seen a little more Back to the Future references, but all in all this was a slow smoldering fire that kept you warm and didn't go out.
If your looking for traditional Seth or split your sides humor, this ain't it. But what else is out there. I thought Ted was unwatchable. I've tried to get through that thing twice and failed. I guess my IQ is triple digits, because most comedies these days take the easy way out.
Let's f*rt, that's funny. P*ss in his face, that's funny. Sh*t in a hat, that's funny. Now, while this movie has all of these, I think this is where this movie falls short. Where is succeeds is when the writing gets anachronistic, like when Seth and Giovanni see things more the way we do today and everyone else is stuck in 1880's or the Back to the Future scene or the Indian's translating scene or the trip scene or the Mustache song scene. All of these worked for me and had me laughing.
Seth don't listen to these hacks, transition yourself, get rid of the toilet humor and work on more sophisticated movies like this one.
