This film had its moments, but ultimately it fell short of reaching its full potential. Frankly, had it been directed by anyone other than Robert Eggers, it might have been far better. In my view, this critique extends to most of his work.
I'd rate this a C+, or perhaps a 5.5/10, primarily for the performances, which were the standout element. Both the original and Herzog's 1979 version surpass this one in every conceivable way.
Eggers' penchant for agonizingly slow pacing and his tendency to overinflate every scene makes even a two-hour film feel interminable. While he is often lauded as a visionary, I find him to be one of the most overrated directors working today. His overly stylized approach and excessive indulgence did a disservice to what could have been a flawless modern remake of Nosferatu. I struggle to see the appeal of his work, as it often undermines the material rather than enhancing it.
This movie wasn't an enjoyable experience, but it's hard to fault the film, story, or cast... they all had the potential to deliver something remarkable. Instead, it feels like the blame lies squarely with an overrated director whose pretentious and uninspired style continues to spread like a plague, draining life and energy from otherwise promising projects. It's a frustrating example of how a director's "elite" but uninspired influence can overshadow the true potential of great material.

This might as well have been one of the straight to video sequels. It was actually worse than those, just with a higher budget and bigger names attached.
There really isn't a story, some cool scenes, but completely unnecessary and overly focused on flashy scenes and devoid of substance.
If I can say anything good, it is that Bill Skarsgard does his best.. but even his efforts cannot redeem the overall shortcomings of the film and the filmmakers. Even the look feels wrong, I would relate this whole experience closer to the interpretation of the Joker in the first Suicide Squad film.. as odd as it sounds, I actually kept having moments that I felt like that movie experience. When he would be on screen, and other characters, it seemed like it was just disruptive and badly developed by the creative team. Like being different just to be different . That actually goes for the whole film, It isn't horrible, but at the same time it is unnecessary and seems they completely didn't understand what made the first film a classic any more than the people who created City of Angels or Salvation, and especially Wicked Prayer.
I suspect that this will rightfully be a complete box office bomb and maybe will be the moment we finally let the franchise R. I. P.

This is still my favorite Troma film. The screenplay is by James Gunn and he was assistant director on the film. It was his first and likely his most unique film. The amazing thing is how many actors from this film made it to other bigger films, especially the MCU by way of Gunn.
It's a beautifully awesome WTF of a movie and perfectly narrated by the one and only Lemmy.
Troma is known for being crazy, and started the careers of many famius actors and directors.
There are some truly beautiful films from the studio, but this definitely stands as their best. If you've never seen it, out the kids to bed, put it on, and just let it happen. You will never forget it.
