The Shallows is one of those "good" shark movies. It's well-done and believable but unfortunately for me, the realism was too much for me.
The story starts out with the main character making some dumb choices but again, it's very realistic. It becomes intense very quickly but the gore is where I had to stop. Despite it's PG-13 rating, it is very graphic. She gets attacked by the shark, cut up on coral, and the movie focuses on her wounds. Close ups of it for prolonged amounts of time. I'm okay with some gore, I don't like it but if it's fast, I can deal with it. I had to keep skipping ahead and when I realized it was only going to get worse the further it went, I turned it off.
I'm not sure if I was watching an uncut version or not, but I've seen other people say it's super gory even at PG-13. It's not a bad movie, pretty well done, but do not underestimate the gore.

I've been a big fan of Resident Evil and have always wanted a faithful adaptation of the game's story. I heard about this one being just that and was super excited. I saw the cast in a trailer and none of them seemed like the main characters, but that's no problem as long as they stay in character.
Unfortunately, the director decided to completely butcher the story and characters. They don't have any resemblance to their game counterparts (save for Chris kind of). Jill doesn't stand out at all, Leon is goofy comic relief, and the worst imo was Wesker. I know they want to shape him into the cold character he was in the games but I was shocked at how he was portrayed. He's an idiot who only cares about getting girls. They should have just made original characters instead of using the same names. It felt more like an alternate universe story.
Despite them not being anywhere near their game counterparts, the cast was hilarious. I loved their dynamics and how they interacted with each other. The story was very entertaining and had good scary moments. If it wasn't for the character portrayals, I would have said it's perfect.
If you don't know anything about Resident Evil, you'll be entertained. If this was a movie that was similar to Resident Evil or took place somewhere else than Raccoon City, fans would have liked it more. If you are a fan, know that the characters will be nothing like the game and you will probably enjoy it more.

Netflix is doing two Resident Evil shows, this one that is cgi, and another that is live action. I didn't realize this one was connected to the other cgi movies and got excited to see it.
It does feel similar to the other cgi movies but it felt fresh at the same time. There were a few genuinely scary moments. It mostly follows Leon, with Claire sprinkled in, and a cameo of Ashley's photo. It was pretty amusing to see how the President respected Leon above anyone else because of RE4.
The cgi movies/show would be better if they followed other characters besides Leon and Claire. They're good characters but it gets a bit stale. It would be nice to also see Sherry again since she's close to them. The story is interesting for the most part but nothing really new.
It's not terrible, it's entertaining, and with how the Resident Evil universe has been getting butchered tv/movie-wise, I will take this above anything else.
