First off, I'm not a mother, or a parent at all for that matter. But I think I have at least a little understanding of how becoming a mother can be a total change in someone's life. The people commenting how self pity and self absorbed this film is, sound to me like they have no idea of the above.
The film has good acting (definitely not surprising from Amy Adams) and decent dialogue, decent cinematography, and there are moments that truly feel like spontaneous family moments.
Maybe like everything else, is not for everyone, but for the people who get it, it will resonate with you.
I quite enjoyed it.

I can't wrap my head around people saying this was a good performance, his acting was mediocre at best, stupid lines, stupid decisions. It could have been an interesting story with some tweaks but as it stands it just doesn't work. All of the events are nonsensical just to make the movie work, nothing to do with reality, and because of that it comes off really amateurish and ultimately dumb.
Only pros I could find is that it looks good, sound is good, if you like pop the music is fine, and the concert section came out pretty well, but that's it. I know M. Night is hit and miss but I wasn't expecting it to be this bad.
