The Last of Us was never just a game, it was a journey.
A gut-punching, beautifully brutal story about love, loss, survival, and humanity.
Everything that made the game so gripping, the quiet moments, the emotional weight, the brutal choices has been replaced with drawn-out glances, limp dialogue, and side characters who somehow matter more than the leads.
This version of Joel? He's about as intimidating as a mall cop with a heart of gold. Game Joel had grit, trauma, and moral conflict oozing from every line. HBO's Joel? He looks like he's one monologue away from handing out therapy coupons and warm hugs. Pedro Pascal is a great actor but he's a terrible fit for this role. There's no edge, no tension, no quiet menace or inner conflict. Just a tired dad with sad eyes.
And Bella Ramsey? Talented, no doubt but fundamentally miscast as Ellie. The raw emotion, vulnerability, charm, and fire that made Ellie unforgettable just aren't there. And it's not all on Bella it's the direction, the writing, and the total misunderstanding of what made Ellie who she is. Pedro suffers the same fate. The chemistry, the spark, the layers? Gone.
What we're left with is a stripped down, sanitized, emotionally limp version of a story that once shattered us. The nuance is gone. The depth is gone. Worst of all, the soul is gone.
This show doesn't just fall short of the games it actively undermines them. It dilutes everything fans loved, stuffs in unnecessary fluff, and skips over the emotional buildup that gave the original story its power. Now it's just soft punches and shallow shortcuts.
This isn't The Last of Us. It's a watered-down imitation living off the reputation of a far better, far braver story.
Congrats, HBO you took a masterpiece and turned it into background noise for folding laundry.

There are obviously no high expections from this movie because of the rating and also because there wasn't any good movie coming from Marvel since Infinity War. However this one is good. Why? Because the movie went so fast you dont even notice it. No, the jokes are not too much, the plot is not boring and the performances are good. Just go see the movie. 10 because of the so many bad reviews.
Its mind-boggling how can you make such a bad movie from such rich source material. Honestly it looks almost like a parody.
