I had heard that this was a great movie to watch from some friends, so I decided to give it a chance. I had high hopes for it but it started to fall flat right out of the gate. If you enjoy two people lounging around Japanese karaoke bars and just laying around in bed talking, then this movie is for you. Bill Murray was always a great actor, in my opinion, but this movie was really beneath him. The script was just too dry, however the cinematography was very nice, since it captured some of the Japanese culture and scenic areas, but if you wanted to see a movie with some kind of substance, this is not it. I see other reviewers saying, "After watching it years after the first time, I get it!". There's nothing to get..trust me.
After watching the first few episodes, I had high hopes for this series, but after the first few, the show just falls flat. And Ali Larter is the worst actress they could have gotten for this series. Her southern accent and bad acting just makes me nauseated. It's almost hard to call her an actress. This last episode (number 7) was nothing but a "Barbie" movie wanna be, except for the language and adult themes. Just two blondes (mother and daughter) going through 1 hour of them trying to "One Up" each other. I just roll my eyes when they start with the banter. Taylor Sheridan is apparently going through a midlife crisis and wants to live through the lives of teenagers in TX. This is really going downhill fast.
I had high hopes for this movie going in, but apparently I need to stop listening to some of these critics out there because they wouldn't know a good movie if it came up and bit them. At times this movie was just slow. It seemed like it took forever for them to get from one location to the next. Just riding down some backwoods country road listening to some god awful music. Which reminds me, the music score was TERRIBLE. The songs that were used were grating to listen to. Who thought it would be ok to break into a Jazz song during a firefight. Who came up with these songs?!? I'm not sure who some of the artist were, but my ears were bleeding from listening to some of them. AND the background score, where they used some off the wall sounds, apparently was made by some high school kid on a electronic digitizer or something. All he was playing was screeching, eerie sounds. This movie is definitely a one time watch and done. No rewatching here.
