I absolutely adore and appreciate this film for showing the lucid, brilliant, and serious side of Hunter S. Thompson. Before the caricature, apart from the Raoul Duke persona, beyond the Johnny Depp portrayal -- Hunter S. Thompson was a serious guy. He was a sweet, sensitive, intellectual who thought he could help change the world. He was wrapped up in the moment and swept up in the craziest story you've never heard. Freak Power: The Ballot or The Bomb, is the true story of Hunter S. Thompson running for Sheriff of Aspen, Colorado in 1970!
Directors Daniel Joseph Watkins and Ajax Phillips have really put together a masterpiece with this film. It's an archive of lost footage, freshly opened to the public, and it is so different from anything we've seen on Hunter S. Thompson. This is a stunning film with a fresh preservative on a monumentally important historical figure. A MUST SEE.
