As silly as I feel leaving a review (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) on an eight year old movie, Rough Night came up recently and I decided to revisit it. I came away with the same opinion as I did the first time.
It's okay. It's not great, but it's not that bad either. It's.an hour and 41 minutes of Scarlett Johansson, and for some of us that's enough for the watch.
I've seen it compared to The Hangover, but I felt thicker lines can be drawn to it being a female version of Very Bad Things. And I came away with some of the same feelings about Very Bad Things.
VBT was billed as a dark comedy, but it was more of a drama that had some silliness sprinkled in here and there. Rough Night started out looking more like a Bachelor Party-esque comedy, turned into something of a drama, then sort of... kind of... found it's dark comedy intention.
If you are a Scarlett Johansson fan it's worth the bother. If not, you probably won't like it as much. Even as a Scarlett fan... It was okay. I can't say anything better than that.

I really liked the show and was hoping it would get a longer run. It was something different, but I guess RTE has another reality show they want to fill a time slot with so no more actual well thought out comedy bits needed. I don't see how Justine Stafford at the very least doesn't already have a long list of acting jobs in front of her, and Emma Doran, Michael Frye, Sean Burke, and Killian Sundermann are outstanding as well.
Even though I would have liked the show to continue I do wonder what this cast could do if they didn't have the restrictions set by RTE. It's too bad there isn't some form of cable network in Ireland that allows a little more freedom in content.

The show has been off the air for a couple of years, but in the interest of leaving a review that doesn't overuse the word "moron" or some variation thereof...
I liked the show as much, if not more than the original for the first couple of seasons. Jenny and Mary were great additions for season two, which I think is the strongest season.
But then you could see the wheels coming off in season three. We still had Mary, which was a huge plus, but Moe was gone most of the season. I didn't realize how much Victor was part of the enjoyment of the show until he was out of the opening credits and gone for most of the season as well. Other buyers came and went and you didn't know week to week who would be there. That not only left things unstable, but none of the part time "characters" were very likable. In particular Matt Blevins who is the only person less likable than Dave Hester on the original series.
As for the show in general, I find some of the criticism funny. It IS a TV show, so there are certain things that are done for TV. There have been more than a few times they have come across something I'm quite sure they are aware of the value, but for the benefit of the show they "have it checked out". That doesn't mean the show is fake, and that doesn't mean the people on it are (here comes that word) morons.
If you like the original Storage Wars, it's worth checking out, though you might get ready to abandon ship with season three.
