10 means they get better with time and are worth multiple viewings. Additionally they have some sort of depth that people can take home with them. Most of these are not feel good movies. In fact a good chunk of them have a theme of making the viewer feel guilty to be human. 

If you are new to films and want to watch good movies I would start with the older ones because they are generally simpler and have less detail embedded into them. That is not to say that a layman won't enjoy Scott Piligrim or Kill Bill but he won't quite see what it is that makes them special and unique. 

These are ALL movies you watch in silence and uninterrupted.

The category of "horror" is as classified by IMDB. The horror category isn't exclusively horror, for instance, Shaun of the dead has made it here, which is mainly a comedy.

Michael Cera in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)

IMDB has one of the greatest movie lists i've ever seen yet there's some movies which perplexed me as to why they were there. Frankly its a small drawback to such a great list... and I am not saying these movies are not good or fun but they absolutely don't deserve to be in the top 250 films of all time.

The line i decided to draw for whats war related, is right between best years of our lives and taxi driver, the existential veteran was a little out of bounds in my opinion, whilst the radical change of pace and impossibility of fitting in barely makes it. I might include spoilers in here so, watch out.
