The reason I made this the title is because I am a native New Yorker who has lived in many places besides New York but New York is my home and I caught this short movie late in the night time on HBO and I was enthralled and I'll tell you exactly why this is not an exciting movie Certainly it's not in color but you have to pay attention to every single word if you really want to catch the drift basically it's a mini cop drama but the intelligence behind it is what impressed me it's been a long time since I've seen an intelligent movie where I actually had to pay attention to what was being said It's too easy in the world I live in to make rash judgments based on three words or a picture that could not be done in 1950 and I'm glad I'm fairly well educated and can follow something like this it's not the norm today and I appreciate it immensely it woke up my senses to what good acting and plot really is.
When I was quite young my father was a big western show fanatic and we used to watch many shows together but specifically rawhide & gunsmoke stayed in my mind now here it is 2025 and I am once again watching both of these but mostly rawhide I remember even as a child I preferred Eric Fleming to Clint Eastwood not only was he more handsome but in all seriousness he was a much better actor and his role suited him perfectly or vice versa as a child I didn't see the undercurrents or the politic leanings sometimes involved it was just good storytelling and as an adult it's even better storytelling we lost a good actor when we lost Eric Fleming and his life wasn't that great either and here it is now Clint Eastwood turning 95 and still acting and making movies.
As far as I'm concerned there really is no storyline in this so I'm going to concentrate on the actors I had been wondering for a long time what happened to Tom Hardy he was so fabulous in Peaky Blinders in the movies he made in that same timeframe and his characters were vivid and he was quite Handsome charming whatever he needed to be Tim olyphant has been a favorite of mine for a while but of course justified and deadwood put him over the top for me and Forrest Whitaker is a fabulous character actor they have given him parts that I don't think anybody else could've played them nearly as well So here we have all this talent that participates in the nonfunctioning script and the whole thing basically just lingers there's nothing that really holds any of these characters or the plot together and capable of pulling an audience "in".
