I don't understand why they would make an origin story when we already pretty much had a good enough background on this character. This was a wasted opportunity to continue the story of one of the most enigmatic characters in modern Star Trek. Michelle Yeoh is fantastic as always. The writing is lazy and the special effects are messy. Overall i enjoyed the "movie" which really does feel more like a pilot episode to a new series, which we know isn't the case, or more of a side story to Star Trek Discovery. It definitely doesn't feel like some new Star Trek movie which paramount tried to sell it as.
After watching this movie several times trying to figure out what there is to hate about it, I still don't get it. This is a great sci fi film, and a great addition to the terminator series. Great cast, Yelchin, Worthington, and Bale were all great, the story was unique, different and interesting. The post apocalyptic story is totally different than any other terminator story, the effects were great and plenty of action. I really don't understand why people have blasted this film. Bryce Dallas Howard was good, and the cameo of Helena Bonham Carter was fun. I would definitely give this a chance.
So I went into this movie as a non Mormon, growing up in Utah (48). I know the culture and the beliefs, even read the Book of Mormon. This movie from the opening scene crushed the patriarchy and all the idiosyncrasies of the religion, including the hypocrisy, the control, the manipulation, the changing of doctrine based on what's popular at the time. There are subtleties about Mormonism in this movie and there are hidden meanings and messages in this movie. If you know, you know. In my opinion it was Hugh Grants opus and he deserves a nomination for this roll. He was absolutely perfect and bravo!
