First let me say that I generally love complex sci-fi and that includes the Matrix trilogy but this was awfully conceived. It had a few good ideas but the cut/edit and dialogue was terrible. Eddie Redmayne was particularly poor with a badly mangled impression of Voldemort with the vestigial elements of Stephen Hawking - He seems a very limited actor. The plot was also very generic and flowed very badly due to the stilted predictable dialogue. I usually like both Channing Tatum and Kunis but this was far from their finest hour. The effects also seemed way below par, while some reminded me of the second Matrix film they felt quite dated. Overall I really wanted to like this but it was a big fail and only worth getting on bargain basket DVD rack.
The songs were abysmal, the story was changed too much (It was barely recognisable). I loved the original story (used to scare me as a kid), but the full length 60s feature was fantastic with amazing songs - the songs in this were the worst in any film I've seen in a long time (worse than the updated Willy Wonka!!). Still not the worst film ever on its own merits - just a terrible adaptation.
The voices didn't seem to work very well either -and they felt they needed to add in a romance and even - shock - show what the Onceler looked like - the whole menace and charm was that you never see him. Such a shame that this looked like a committee had got together and tried to make something THEY thought kids would like. 5.5/10

The first thing to say was the acting was terrible, particularly the main bad guy and the woman in the coffin. I know some of it was down to the direction but anybody who makes Sarbo look like a true thespian must be bad. The story is all over the place and very badly filmed. If they truly spent £600,000 on this I would love to know what that was on, it feels and looks like a very cheap movie.
The main bad guy was so camp I was going to call him "hi de hi" but I love that show. The plot holes in the story would have me calling it Camenmbert - very cheesy.. Don't waste your money, if you have to see it wait until it's on a 12 o'clock showing on a TV channel that has no budget. For all my criticism I have seen worse.
