Not often is it that documentaries an controversial really manage to capture the controversy Not often is it that they actually make you think. Not often is it that other arguments are really hard and not just oversimplified.
And in this day and age rarely is this done without being only about the authors point of view or even an advertisement for the author.
This to my surprise and delight was an actual documentary. I have to admit though that I had to go through the first minutes to realize it.
I wished there were many more documentaries like this.

Alright, let me start by saying it's not a great movie. But what Horror-SciFi movie really is?
Still a lot more fun, more interesting story and better acting than you'll ever find in a James Bond movie. And hey unlike those, it features two women that aren't love interests!
As mentioned the robot-human cyborg gore is really nicely done. Which makes sense, given it'd directed by a special effects person. So if you'd ever wondered what the Borg should look like if they weren't pretty gore-free in this movie you'll find out.
Oddly enough ti did a couple of things that various later movies picked up. Take Matrix which only got released a bit later. The movie has a couple of scenes that feel like the "real world" in Matrix. It also appears to have a Matrix style screen saver at some point.
The characters are all silly cliche caricatures, but again, this fits the kind of movie.
Something to enjoy here is also that the movie doesn't try to teach you something, or to force some world view onto you. For once it wasn't all some secret project by evil Russians and that despite it happening on a Russian ship! A trope that even the captain appears to have wanted.
Again. This isn't the best movie by far, but I think it's a more than decent "crappy" movie. I guess that wasn't really the intention, it wasn't marketed as such, but I wished there were more big budget crappy movies the movie landscape wouldn't be as boring as it is today.
Even the jump scares are less annoying than in similar movies.
One of my favorite (not originally meant to be) B-Movies.

This is a classic that is so bad it's good. It's a likely intentional parody of itself.
It's cheap, dumb fun, something to relax and shut off your mind. This makes it pretty hard to rate, but let me try anyway.
Will this movie make you think? Absolutely not! Not a chance.
Will it make you burst out into laughter? That depends on your taste. It might, but also it isn't a comedy. Instead it plays with cliches, cliche fantasy and I think at that it does a decent job.
The story, as is usual with such movies is extremely thin. You can essentially ignore it. If you feel like something doesn't make sense, you are absolutely right! Nothing makes sense, but it's also not really meant to.
If you want to go for a silly, 80s cult movie, maybe watch something with friends, be it real ones or a can of beer, or whatever you are into, this movie might make for a wonderful, joyful evening.
