Mickey17 looked interesting because of the main character. This is definitely a different movie for him, and he had to simulate different personalities throughtout the movie, for which, in my opinion, he did well. The movie is de-humanizing, and life is held cheaply, and at the pleasure of two insane characters (played very well by the actors) who push the limits of sensibility. I did see some mention of pacing, and yes, I think it could have been edited better. However, I did like the ending. It was satisfying and turned positive. Is it a memorable movie? Maybe and maybe not. It won't be on my top ten list, but others may enjoy it more than me.
I am surprised it didn't do better in the theaters. I grew up watching the Speed Racer cartoons that were made in the 60's. I was hooked on each and every one, lost in a boy's fantasy of race car driving and beating the bad guys. This movie blew all my expectations, and every time I see it, Sprytle and Chim-chim are funnier than ever. This is a close knit family who will do anything to protect each other, who learn from their mistakes of the past, and I can't help but feel this will go into the history books as a great movie classic. The special effects keep up with the Iightning pace, for a true unforgettable experience. I cannot recommend this movie high enough.
