Review: Until Dawn
By Jason Kohl
Until Dawn is what happens when Evil Dead, Hell Night, Cabin in the Woods, Old, and Ready or Not all go on a really cursed group trip-and somehow make it out with a messy, fun, horror-infused masterpiece.
It's a total trope-fest. Like, count how many you spot-I dare you. But that's kind of the point. It leans so hard into classic horror setups that when the game does throw a twist at you, it actually lands. Just when you're about to tune out, it yanks you back in with something weird, bloody, or straight-up nasty.
There's some solid body horror later on that gives it a grimy, WTF am I looking at kind of energy. And while the character development can feel all over the place, the chemistry between the actors keeps it grounded. It's chaotic, creepy, and honestly a lot of fun.
If you love horror-even if you hate tropes-Until Dawn is worth the ride.

Reviews labeling this as just a rom-com or a horror movie fail to recognize that horror itself has multiple subgenres:
If you can move past that aspect, this is very much a slasher-horror film, packed with classic tropes and solid kill scenes for fans of blood-splatter horror. Depending on who you are, these tropes may determine whether or not this is the film for you.
I appreciate the film's comedic elements, which at times give off Ryan Murphy's Scream Queens meets the Scream franchise vibes.
Worth a watch-6/10!
- Dark comedy/rom-com horror (blending two subgenres) fits well with the film's release timing. Plus, comedy is often used in horror to provide relief, so the entire movie isn't overwhelmingly intense.

- Engaging for the most part, though it does slow down toward the ending. The two leads have strong chemistry that translates well on screen.

Big Little Lies contained a beautiful atmospheric backdrop, an amazing soundtrack and score; a list of tremendous performances, actors and cameos; and an entertaining storyline throughout Season One and ending in Season Two. Limited Series are now my Go-To's.
I connected deeply with the interpersonal conflicts amongst characters throughout the show. Although I lead a much different lifestyle, and acting was still connection-worthy.
My favorite actor portrayals: Zoe Kravitz, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern
Best Song From The Show: "The Wind" by PJ Harvey
I strongly recommend this series.
