  • Jeremy and Rajat Cinematic Universe

Another fine addition to the Jeremy and Rajat Cinematic Universe.

This episode was certainly a bit more all over the place, trying to focus on many side characters and all their plot lines and interactions between them and the main cast, it's actually a really fun story arc I honestly wish they split this up over multiple episodes to get more focus on the railroad thing for one and the office in the other.

It's something I've noticed with this season in general is that the dialogue and individual lines and jokes are really sharp, while the story is either doing nothing and meandering or trying to do too much and losing focus/pacing. Good dialogue but pointless stories make for forgettable episodes even if they're really funny.

  • Some biopic pitfalls, but otherwise well made and entertaining

First off, the actors all do a phenomenal job and really nail it. I've been a huge fan of Kumail Nanjiani ever since he voiced Prismo in Adventure Time, fans will be happy to know he brings his usual air of charm to this as well.

As a whole, it's really engaging and well made. The pacing of the first episode is a bit rushed, while some shows take 2 hours of content and turn it into 6 episodes, the first episode could've been extended to two. Otherwise the pacing is pretty great and the writing is well done for a biopic.

For a biopic. Unfortunately, it falls into some traps that every biopic does. It does that thing where the main character has a moment of inspiration that you know didn't happen in real life, and various other things for dramatic effect.

Normally that's fine, but the thing is that the way it actually happened in real life was even weirder and probably would've been more entertaining.

On top of that, where I take issue with it is with Paul Snider and Dorothy Stratten. While everything else is harmless, in reality Paul and Dorothy were much more tragic characters. The show makes Paul a more empathetic character, but.... I'd urge people to read their story Paul was more monstrous than the show makes him out to be and I actually think it does the audience a disservice to act like they can't handle it.

  • High Maintenance but for sex in Chicago instead of drugs in NYC

An easy going anthology that's about the everyday lives of people in Chicago, and how they navigate relationships or the role sex (or lack thereof) plays in their lives.

I wouldn't call it particularly engaging, but I also don't know that it's meant to be. There's something comforting about the normalcy found in the diversity of situations. It's also just really nice background watching while I'm working.

The comparisons to High Maintenance are obvious so comparing them, I feel like this show could do a better job of showcasing Chicago. Chicago seems to be experiencing a bit of a renaissance lately in the arts and media, and I was hoping to see some of that here. When you watch High Maintenance you can almost smell the city, you can feel it breathe through you. I'm only a season in but I haven't really felt that yet.
