I am a completely non-religious person, essentially an agnostic/atheist. I started watching the show based on the excellent reviews and because I heard it was historically accurate. I wanted to learn more about the Bible and the story of Jesus. I found it a little slow at first but I stuck with it and I must say this is a fantastic show. Despite being slow at times, I think overall it needed the slow pace to properly explore the characters and the events. The actor who portrayed Jesus is absolutely amazing and I can now never think of Jesus as anyone else but him. In fact, the acting of all the characters all around is virtually perfect.
The show was shot in Utah and for some reason they kept the snow-capped peaks of the mountains in many of the shots which obviously is not accurate for the real location of Judea. Not sure why the producers were OK with that but in the grand scheme of things it's a minor inaccuracy and is the reason why I gave it 9 instead of 10 stars
I would strongly recommend this show to any who is interested in that period of history. One of the major strengths of the show is that it is not unnecessarily melodramatic or overly religious and its presentation of every character and every event is highly believable.

This series is a total waste of time. It starts off reasonably well but then it drags on and on and on. It is painfully slow and leads nowhere. I do not see the point of this series ever being made. This could've been a two hour documentary at the most. It is so slow that it seems like it is moving in real time. It provides no useful or new information as to the motive behind the killings and no explanation for all of the open questions regarding the case. It's saving grace that it does provide a view of how discriminated against the gay community was in Indianapolis those days and how apparently, the local authorities did not follow up on many open questions and loose ends. Don't waste your time on this series.
The show seemed to start off well and was building up to an interesting story. However somewhere along the middle of the show it seemed to lose focus, the acting deteriorated and the writing went downhill. By the last two episodes, the show made no sense whatsoever. It seemed completely unbelievable and the last two episodes seemed like an afterthought to try to create an ending with a twist. Overall a terrible show and a waste of time. The direction seemed almost amateurish. It also made no sense to have a younger actress play Cate Blanchett's younger role. People don't change that much in 20 years in terms of their facial appearance. Very poorly executed production and direction.
