at its first glance this film is about a haunting ghost story. but as the plot unfolds it unravels a more frighting mystery than you would have imagined. if you like horror movies that come along without too much gore and splatter, but excel at delivering a good story then please watch it. the acting may not be perfect at every moment, but it is sufficient without having yourself to facepalm too often.

I liked the setting, because old houses are almost terrifying on their own. the audio and visuals were also very well done. One thing I really appreciated was the modest but reasonable use of modern media through the film, where it is often deliberately left out in horror movies. I think it is because the writers are afraid that it might ruin the atmosphere.

After you have watched this movie, you may be a better person. Although this sounds pretentious and I assume not everyone may be affected by this film as I was, you will definitely FEEL something inside. Something that all high-budget productions cannot deliver. It's not about a rosy love-story or a martial arts fighting movie like matrix. It is something special, it is unique among all other films I watched in my life. I'm truly lost for words, because I am not a native speaker, therefore I cannot fully describe what I have just seen. But I can recommend you this movie, but only if you are interested in a truly heart-touching and innovative story with a examination of existential questions on life, shoot beautifully and acted comparatively skilled, because it is just a low-budget production that you probably will not event recognize if you don't know. After having watched you will understand. All others I can recommend to avoid this movie, to prevent too much of negative critics here on IMDb, because that is not what this film deserves.

At first, I am a fan of weird or absurd stories. But there is one thing I dislike in movies the most that is illogicality. This film is a very good example for this. The whole movie I thought, why is she doing that, why don't she... ugh. I think you get the point. The main character acts the most time in a way that personally I would not behave in such a situation. If story-writers introduce such gaps just to go on with their story it's truly a sign for a weak plot. In the end they introduce a twist, which maybe explains her behavior, but questions the plausibility of the film as a whole.

At half of the film I tried to convince myself to not stop watching this movie, because it annoyed me so much. I read about a twist in the end on IMDb.com so I held on to the end. But now I am disappointed because of the pointlessness of High Tension. It leaves you standing with nothing but lots of gore and splatter and a feeling of a waste of time. Don't watch this movie if you like to see a sophisticated horror movie, but I cannot stop you if you are a fan of senseless killing.

The only reason for me this movie deserves 2 stars is because of the neat soundtrack. ;-)
