  • OK for an Asylum Movie

It seems some of the reviewers here are not familiar with Asylum movies and live sheltered lives if they think this is the worst movie ever. Why in the world would anyone think this is part of the "Alien" series? I've seen enough Asylum films to say this is about par for the course. I didn't expect much going into it and on that level it did not disappoint. You would think after all these movies Asylum would get a decent plot and a director who would actually direct actors how to act. It would have been nice if there was a little more alien in the movies, in fact there were none except something near the end. Paul Logan seems to always act the same way and I happen to like him, even when he overacts, but then again, maybe that is how they are directed. In a relatively rare occurrence, there was no great conflict between parents and teen kids. And as for the resolution to save the world, it was a yawner.

  • Derivative, Gross and Pretty Silly

The title alone would tell you that this is a derivative plot along the lines of "Snakes on a Plane" or any other number of movies that feature in-flight disaster by some creature. It is interesting that this is a German-made movie mostly all in English but that resulted in weird accents and poor acting. There are gratuitous scenes of sex and nudity, and the plot in general was so familiar that the main distinguishing factor was the monster in question, which is really not explained how it came about or for what reason this mad scientist was transporting it. For lovers of horror movies, there is enough gore to satisfy them, and while some reviewers give this movie a better rating than I am, well, everyone is entitled to their taste. I am usually generous when it comes to bad horror films but in this case, I could not bring myself to give it more than three stars.

  • OK For Its Type

Certainly all these shark movies in some sense hope to capitalize on the success of the granddaddy of them all, "Jaws." As far as I am concerned, none of them come even close, even to the inferior sequels to "Jaws." However, to echo another reviewer, these movies have to be graded on a different scale because their goal is not to be great, but they are entertaining in their own right. Now, people need to remember that this is science FICTION, so I ignore comments about implausible plots. Once you get passed that, then there is something entertaining here about how the various characters emerge from the horror. If you are looking for gore, this isn't the one because you don't see any half-chomped bodies or a lot of blood,. But for the 80 minutes running time, it was OK. The formula for many such films, which begin with some family conflict, with some unlikable character is tiring, as well as the end when there seems to be improved bonding.
