Chris White is an award-winning filmmaker who has spent over a decade writing, directing, and producing a variety of feature length and short films. His most recent project is the music-centric, coming of age comedy ELECTRIC JESUS, which explores the world of a fictional 80’s Christian hair metal band called 316. The band’s journey from playing Bible camp talent shows to head-banging rock venues is an amusing look at youth culture during the time when heavy metal music was bathed in controversy. The film stars Brian Baumgartner (The Office), Judd Nelson (THE BREAKFAST CLUB, ST. ELMO’S FIRE), and newcomers Shannon Hutchinson (ASSASSINAUT) and Andrew Eakle (Creepshow, THE GLORIAS).

In addition to writing and directing ELECTRIC JESUS, White also co-wrote original songs for the film, collaborating with composer/indie rock legend Daniel Smith. The raucous soundtrack ELECTRIC JESUS: Music From and Inspired By The Motion Picture is scheduled for worldwide release by Joyful Noise Recordings early 2021.

ELECTRIC JESUS won White the Best Director award at the 2020 Orlando Film Festival where it was also selected as Best Picture. The film screened at over a dozen festivals in 2020, winning Best Narrative Feature at both the Fayetteville Film Festival and the Rome (Georgia) International Film Festival.

White’s other films include Southern Gothic comedy anthology UNBECOMING (2016), indie-film farce CINEMA PURGATORIO (2014), and family dramedies GET BETTER (2012) and TAKEN IN (2011). Additionally, he has written, directed, and produced for the multi-award winning web series phenomenon, Star Trek Continues.

White graduated from Furman University with a B.A.in Drama and currently lives in Greenville, South Carolina. He is married to executive producer/producer/screenwriter Emily Reach White.

  • The Brothers Matthews MUST SEE screwball slueth film...

LOST HOLIDAY is a French New Wave-style screwball detective story...imagine BAND OF OUTSIDERS meets THE THIN MAN...or maybe more on the nose: MANHATTAN MURDER MYSTERY for Millennials. (Sorry, that's probably too trite, I know.)

Kate Lyn Sheil gives yet another masterful performance as a completely original female character we've never seen on screen before (Nicole Holofcener should write something for KLS immediately). And she's match perfectly with the churlish Thomas Matthews...in a truly platonic, trope-defying relationship that lives in the chemistry of actual BFFs...again, something that wouldn't even occur to a lesser filmmaker.

The rest of the cast is a who's who of "that guys"...faces you might not expect to see in a low budget affair like LOST HOLIDAY (or in a movie at all: David Corn?!). Each bringing a fresh energy to the proceedings: William Jackson Harper as the love lost, Allie Gallerani as his impossibly perfect fiance, Ismenia Mendes as the entitled victim of circumstance...I really can't say enough for the performances co-directors Thomas and Michael Matthews get out of these folks.

Look, LOST HOLIDAY may not be your thing. There is certainly an anarchist spirit to the film-at least in the way the brothers Matthews insist on both honoring and subverting the genre...sometimes within the same scene-that can make an audience member feel like maybe they aren't in on the joke. But still...by doggedly holding on to this fresh and unusual vision, this isn't a film you won't want to miss.
