What a great film. The acting is first class, the cinematography is absolutely superb and the storyline, a quartet of ragtag Russian prisoners overcoming the nazi war machine couldn't be more inspiring. Finally we get to see a non American war propaganda film and one that highlights the struggle of the "other" side. Not sure if this was based on fact, although we would like to think it was. Easily a more realistic engagement than brad pitts tank film. Do yourself a favour and grab some snacks and cosy into your favourite chair and enjoy this Russian marvel.
So I read some reviews of this film and most were around 5 or 6. Thought I would give it a go anyway. WOW is all I can say.
Firstly I had never heard of these amazing women and the difficult and unenviable job they accomplished during WW2.
Secondly they absolutely achieved the result with dignity and respect.
I am guessing the negative reviews are from white males. I gave this 8 out of 10.
The main reason not to give it 10 was that it was (in reference to war) pretty inaccurate. The battle scenes didnt seem to be researched enough to be believable.
Apart from that, this is an emotional tear jerker but feel good film at the same time.
