I really don't understand how we went from that dark sad story about Arthur Fleck to this kind of musical! Who on Earth thought that this was the natural progression for this story. Joaquin Phoenix was still excellent in the role and Lady Gaga was OK no complaints there but the whole concept was just mad and not in a good way. It looks like someone just couldn't figure out how to take the Joker forward and they were sitting around smoking something and someone said "hey let's make it a musical and get Lady Gaga in". I thought the Joker movie was excellent, Phoenix was well worth that Oscar. In fact it is one of the few movies in recent years that has actually stayed with me afterwards so sadly this effort is a real disappointment for me.
I kind of half watched this because the first episode was free on a service and I saw how well reviewed it was and despite not being a fan of Seth Rogen I found myself getting interest... This was the first episode you understand! Script seemed sharp and all those stellar cameos! I signed up to watch the rest of the show and after episode two I was beginning to regret it as I was rapidly losing interest. As usual with anything with Seth Rogan in it it began to get more and more over-excitable and loud and before long Seth was using his Fozzy bear voice all over the place and that's one of the things I detest about him as an actor. It has started looking like it's meant to be an inside joke made to impress planet Hollywood. I suspect the truth is far more ruthless.
Man this is taking a hell of a long time to tell it's story! No problem with any of the actors involved but the stories are just dragging and I'm losing interest when I suddenly realise I haven't been paying attention to all the details and don't quite know where we are anymore. I don't always feel this way about TV shows, those I like have been long and intricate but I haven't noticed the time fly but this one.... It's just moving too slow. If you asked me to describe what happened in the first season I still wouldn't be able to describe it accurately. It's cool that it doesn't want to be all shiny and predictable even though it kind of is but I just don't think they can keep me coming back for more.
