  • Don't give Emmerich any more money to make trash movies

Did the world need another movie about the battle of Midway? Definitely no. This story is well covered and we have had films which were more accurate, more thrilling and realistic than this CGI movie.

Emmerich apparently thought the opposite to be true, and decided to create one more box office bomb. And it's no surprise to those who followed Emmerich's latest creations, which often had no common sense. Here, he had a chance to follow a script which was set in stone, but decided to opt for action packed CGI, which at times looks more like a computer game, and not like real life events.

Acting is dumb at times, but I don't blame the actors for this, or at least not all of them. For several it's just a paycheck easily earned.

If I had one request to make, for the sake of humanity, stop giving Emmerich money to make more hollow movies like this. It's a disgrace to the film industry.

  • Hardest Lynch movie to watch. But his best.

There was always something what put me off from watching this movie. Not sure why. Perhaps, it was Laura Dern - I didn't really like her as an actress. Even her acting in Twin Peaks The Return always felt somehow misplaced. And not even speaking about her performance in Blue Velvet.

But, I have to admit I was wrong. She totally nailed it in this movie and I seriously do not understand how she wasn't at least nominated for an Academy award. Her performance was brilliant. After watching this movie I hardly can imagine any other actress to fit in as she did. Remarkable and it is definitely a reason to watch this movie.

I also have to say that this movie is most likely a once in a lifetime experience. Unlike other Lynch movies, or the Twin Peaks saga, you will most likely never return to this movie and rewatch it. You will see it once and the experience will be so immersive, so hardcore, that you will feel overwhelmed by it, but not willing to do this to yourself ever again.

This is definitely Lynch in his pure form, none of his other works is so abstract, none of them will bring you as close to the main character. The fact this was shot on DV makes this feel even more authentic and strange.

Speaking of strange - as in every Lynch work, he will not explain the story in it's whole. It's not his job. You are the one who has to make it make sense. Which explanation you chose will define your experience from this movie.

One hint - do not give up on the movie 60-90 minutes in. You might have the feeling it's not going anywhere, but believe me, it is.

  • An overwhelming experience

I knew this film will be difficult to watch, and perhaps that is the reason I waited two years to finally watch it. Honestly, I am so glad I didn't watch it in a theatre, but rather watched it alone at home.

I got so overwhelmed by this movie as I didn't by any other for years.

This is definitely not a movie about obesity. If you think it is, then you likely failed do watch properly. Yes, some of the scenes are shocking, and some viewers might find them disturbing. But you could just replace obesity with alcoholism, drugs or gambling and the narrative would still stand.

No, this movie is about so many other things. It's about the life choices we make, especially the bad ones. It's about regret, and our inability to take those life choices back, change our life for the better despite knowing we did wrong. Or simply, not being able to accept them.

It's about regret, it's about our desire to be forgiven and how difficult it is to forgive. It is about closure in light of an impending death, which most of us want to achieve.

There is very little to criticize about this film. Acting is solid and all awards the actors received are more than well deserved. The way the main characters are introduced at the beginning of the movie is a bit chaotic and you might get confused who is who and how they entered the timeline. But all of it will fit into the right spot with time, even with some sudden u-turns the characters make at times.

Ty Simpkins and the missionary he plays was the weakest spot of the movie, both his acting and the plot part he represented seemed weird, but I think this was made on purpose in order to depict the hypocrisy he himself represents.

I have to admit, finishing the movie made me feel extremely positive about life. Those, who experience hardship in any form, can experience redemption. Those of us, who are lucky enough to not go through any life situation resembling the one of Charlie, should appreciate it. Life is too short to waste it.
