Definitely a grief drama/mystery. Not horror or thriller. But still plenty of creepy atmosphere in this emotional, personal story. The subtle and artistic depiction of "seeing things" was a highlight for me. It's more thought provoking than scare inducing, so don't expect crazy things to happen. But it's an enjoyable, little gem, creatively told. I would have given a 7.5-8, but to offset some undeserving lower ratings I boosted it to 9.
Not as easily accessible as Inception, which may turn off some viewers, but for those who love an amazing mind-bending thriller, Tenet delivers and then some. I agree it's a movie that demands repeated viewings. Overall, I think I still prefer Inception, but this is right there next to it with a fascinating story that's not to be missed.
With all the negativity surrounding this movie, and a trailer that didn't wow me, I was surprised to really enjoy this continuing story. I liked the first one better, but my wife actually preferred this one. More adventure. More serious and darker. Less emotional depth. Just relax and enjoy some family entertainment, and don't be so nitpicky. A worthy sequel.
