  • Very Hollywood

I seek out Russian productions to get away from American story telling and from Hollywood. The Snow Queen 2 was very disappointing, it was very American in its story telling, themes and look and feel.

And on top of that, not the best script.

I hated it and will probably not watch more in this franchise.

  • Bad science

The premise of this movie is that heat is exchanged from the equator. Where it is hot. To the poles. Where it is cold. Only because of salt-something-something creating ocean currents. Rather than as in the real world, because hot and cold drives the exchange on its own. As we see every day in the zink or in the bath tub.

So, according to the movie, when the salt balance in the oceans change this stops some ocean currents so there is less heat exchange between the equator and the poles. Which is a mindbogglingly stupid premise.

The reason they make this premise is that because of the earth's rotation, the Atlantic current is actually making New York colder. Today, in the real world. So if they had made a less silly premise than the salt-something-something silliness. And for example, made the Atlantic currents switch sides from east to west (thereby turning Europe into Siberia), New York would actually have gotten a better climate. Which would not aid in creating climate hysteria in America. So, they had to invent the salt-something something as the movies premise. And thus insulting our intelligence. Which gets an automatic downvote from me at least.

Oh well, the world if full of stupid and ignorant people who will enjoy this stupid movie.

Oh, btw, if there were LESS heat exchange between equator and poles. Because of salt-something-something. You know, making New York freeze over. There would be less violent weather. Not more violent weather. Because weather is driven by the heat exchange between the equator and the poles.

  • Well made movie from a very bad book

I read Terry Pratchett when I was young and thought they were fun books and fun story telling.

But now, many years later, watching this well made film adaptation. I realize I despise at least this book. Terry Pratchett has made deus ex machina into his core storytelling technique. Which is repulsive in and of itself. And disrespectful to his audience, he is just too lazy to fit together a coherent story, instead he just piles "wouldn't it be fun if" on top of one another in one giant pile of garbage.

Furthermore, Pratchett has chosen to write in the fantasy genre. But his books are just one long iteration of parody and scorn on the genre itself.

I really wanted to give this movie a -1000 rating. However, I thought the movie was rather well made and it was faithful to the book. So in that sense I should have given it an 8 or something. And maybe it is an 8 to some who are younger or to those that are not yet wise to the nature of Pratchett's writing or who don't mind his low story telling style. So I ended up giving it a 4. Which is more than it deserves. Or maybe less.
