Laurent Bertin created this story and wrote the French TV series & should have had a credit but gets none . I'm sure he got a good royalty but should have got a credit as this is such an exact copy of "Astrid Murder in Paris " .
Why not watch the original currently also viewable on Channel 4 , vastly superior on every single level It has the background of Paris which makes York seem very parochial and is much better designed , acted and shot .
It's beyond me that C4 couldn't use their very limited drama budget to create new original content rather than copy a series they already show on the same channel ? What a waste of funds !!

With funding almost impossible to find these days for anything other than Marvel type nonsense I'm amazed this beautiful challenging. Profound film got made . It eschews racy camera work and saunters along allowing space and time to build up a hypnotic atmosphere Very much a Fellini for today with finding poetry amidst bleakly beautiful environments and with bizarre looking casts . It is multi layered in its pan historic mythical references and is utterly captivating
A masterpiece on every level in my opinion.
Bravo to this exceptionally gifted writer / director and to Josh 0' Connors mesmerising performance.. and of course to the ever sublime Isabella Rossellini.

This extraordinarily dreadful film sounds like it's dubbed but when you see it's not , you wonder why they all sound like AI robots reading a script in a foreign language . But they all just act really badly . Like they're on tranquillisers .. maybe the only way to get through an excruciatingly turgid script
Gutenberg has 2 expressions ; bemused or smiling like a simpleton . To compare this to Hitchcock (every second is a feeble attempt to rip off the great director ) is unforgivable. It has no tension , no character development, no style . It plods wearily along like a slow moving landslide of sludge .
How a real actress like Huppert ended up in this , gratuitously flashing her nudity for no dramatic reason other than tacky titillation , is incomprehensible. Everybody is truly appalling .
