  • A One Note Show...Batwoman Deserves Better

I began watching Batwoman with high expectations and now, after the majority of the season has been spent, I feel like the showrunner and the writers have trapped themselves in the endless boredom of Alice the psychotic sister. Alice is boring and not particularly Big Time Villain material. However, it would better to retitle the series The Misadventures of Alice. Batwoman is clearly ansillary to Alice, who commands most of the attention. Not only is the talented Ruby Rose wasted on the show, so are Camrus Johnson and Nicole Kang. And poor Dougray Scott, a talented actor, is forced to play the role of an angry man...angry about everything, all the time. Batwoman needs a showrunner who knows and understands the comic book paradigms [ie, if the show is called Batwoman, then Batwoman should play a significant role in the stories]. A new series needs to find its footing, but as the season has progressed, Batwoman has not evolved, but devolved into a muddled mess. I've promised myself to see it through to end the of season 1. But as it stands, I see no reason to plan on watching season 2.

  • Not nearly as bad as some would have you believe

Is the premise of Zoo over-the-top? Yes! Of course. It's supposed to be. Around the world, animals are attacking humans. Judging the story within the premise, it holds together. In fact, there are some amazing production values here and some genuine opportunities for thrills and chills. The animal action is nothing short of amazing. Diane from London suggests (James Patterson hired unimaginative and untalented hacks to write Zoo. pays are unimaginative and untalented. "Ridiculous plot, bad writing, absurd action, and silly all around," she says. "Not one character in this trash behaves as if they were remotely familiar with Africa, animals, or common sense." I disagree. Again, within the context of the story, most of the action is plausible and the characters likable and believable. Frankly, her analysis says more about her than about the show. Such venom and hatred directed at Patterson suggests to me a sad, bitter person with a personal ax to grind. Just as with any program, be it the X-Files or NCIS or Games of Thrones must be judged within the context of its own framework. Zoo is not an Alex Cross thriller. That doesn't make it trash; it simply makes it a different kind of story.
