I was really thrilled when I first heard of a third instalment of the 28 Days Later universe (later I found out it would be a whole new trilogy, not a direct sequel). I was 22 back then when I watched the first movie, and it simply blew my mind. The packed tension and action throughout the movie following the survivors' escape, the new take on the zombie genre, it was a real feeling, and the second movie kept that, with a smashing and visceral introduction of the characters, not to mention the fantastic soundtrack and theme song. To this day, both are among my fave movies ever. Besides, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland were coming back together to directing and scripting, WHAT COULD GO WRONG? Well...
I kinda understand Danny's motivation, making a deeper story, with more dramatic characters, but sadly, it didn't work, not to me, at least. You can notice several characters' choices were pointless or made no sense at all. There are plot holes everywhere and barely any horror or tension, except for the beginning, though some of the characters' motivations were completely implausible.
I felt like Danny was trying to create a world where videogame companies could get some interest and turn it into a videogame franchise. A plot is started, then it's abandoned, a whole character development is thrown away, there was so much lore to describe or create, but Danny ultimately chose to go to a weird and disconnected drama of family trouble and connection.
Hands up for the world building, except the new zombie variations, like I said, seemed to come out of a videogame.
Other than that, I believe I wouldn't rewatch this movie again, and I will certainly wait for the next movie until it comes out on streaming.

I am a SW hardcore fan. I'm 44, so I'm from the first generation batch that watched the old trilogy on and on and on. I was rooting for the series, I swear, but my oh my, what a disappointment. Episode 3 was trashy enough but I tried the fourth ep only to loose the last inch of faith on the series.
Bad produtiction, bad script, bad cinematography that gives a very cheap look... I mean, there's nothing wrong about cheap fx but prodution were given 22 million per epsode, dude, what the hack they did to that amoun? At least, dude, the script, do something about it! I got the idea of the series, about good and bad, the duality of the Force in each young girl, that's actually more of the same it has been thrown throughout the years at the fanbase, but the way Disney put it nowadays is a complete mess. I'm very disappointed about the path Star Wars is going, every new production is getting worse and worse, except for Andor, Mandalorian and Rogue One.
I won't watch The Acolyte anymore.
