Nothing happens in this show.
Maybe this was peak entertainment in 2004 for dudes in 2004 who had never seen a boob before and used this as a form of escapism. But I was 10 in 2004 and I would have thought it was boring then, boring ten years later, and then boring eleven years after that.
None of the characters are particularly interesting. It feels like Ari should be the protagonist, trying to guide absolutely useless actors to doing their jobs. But instead it just centers on four boring dudes going to parties and talking to people, sometimes smoking and drinking. Sometimes they see some bone thin girls naked, but that doesn't matter because they barely even feel like people, they feel like robots that are just meant to be seen.
Anyway, boring show. Not a comedy because it's not funny, not a drama because nothing with any stakes actually happens.

Sometimes I think that I don't like war movies, and then I watch one that's not an American Military Industrial complex wank and I enjoy myself

Not only is it boring and poorly paced, all of the characters are forgettable and look identical, which, I get it, military men. But there's nothing that makes me want to see these characters succeed
If this was a documentary, that would be fine, but this is a dramatisation and it's trying to make me feel for these characters that I just can't.
But yeah, most of the issue is that this movie is just boring. Maybe it was a game changer for 2001 (It wasn't, we already had Platoon, Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now) but I just don't see how this won an Oscar outside of the fact it was a post 9/11 Oscar show and they wanted to pump up the soldiers so they could go so more FREEDOM BANG BANG EAGLE SCREECH FIREWORKS FLAG BIKINI UNCLE SAM KILL THE POOR ETC.

This is a very well shot, well thought out and well planned series. I haven't seen many Polish movies or shows so I was pleasantly surprised, especially for five episodes to be so well done.
My only issue is that none of the characters are likeable whatsoever. I get that that's the idea, it just makes it a painful watch. None of these characters really have any redeeming qualities and they all go from horrible decision to horrible decision. I guess that's the idea though, right? That's just life as a football hooligan? It's just weird to me that I can find characters in all forms of movie or show (no matter how outlandish) to have some relatable qualities yet this grounded story has me struggling to find a single reason to care about any of these characters going throughout their lives.
All in all though, an okay watch.
