A thoroughly disappointing film. The plot is weak and relies almost entirely on repetitive, gratuitous violence with little substance in between. The protagonist faces no real challenges or consequences, which strips the story of any tension or growth. The storyline is so predictable that the ending feels painfully obvious by the halfway point. There's minimal dialogue, and what little there is serves only to link a series of unrealistic fight scenes that quickly lose their impact. With no suspense, no emotional stakes, and no meaningful development, the film ends up feeling hollow and monotonous. They missed an opportunity to make a very good movie. Keanu Reeves appears for 20 minutes in this 2-hour 5-minute movie and mumbles a few words.
I had a very sad week and decided to treat myself to a happy movie that would at least put a smile on my face. Nonnas transported me to my days when I was a kid growing up in Brooklyn. It brought back many fond memories and family all who are no longer with me. Watching a story about real people working together to make a simple man's dream come true, to honor his mother. I have not been moved by something so warm and beautiful in a very long time. Kudos to Vince Vaughn and the entire cast of wonderful women from movies back in the day. A great story with no violence, cursing, sex, or politics.
Shameless cash grab time. It's Christmas so we need a Christmas film to cheer us up. But what we don't need is this below average waste of time. It's a total messy mess. I have no idea who the target audience would be. I surely would not take my kids to see it with the amount of violence on the screen. Maybe they thought Throw every classic Christmas legend together and make it Fast and Furious? It was No fun. No charm. No good.
Remember that Christmas when you asked for a new bicycle but you got a pair of socks instead. This is the cinematic equivalent and these socks are a little bit stinky.
