  • Watched it as a family

I'd never heard of this movie. My sister and her husband love it and own the DVD - and they convinced the rest of the family to come and watch this with them. We were a group of 11 people, male and female, ranging in age from 18 to 73. We HOWLED. Did we love each and every skit? No, but I'd say 85% of the content was laugh- worthy. I found myself roaring with laughter at subject matter that I would normally not find amusing.

I am a 49-year-old female who has very fond memories of seeing "Airplane" as a young teenager. "Borat" had me gasping for breath, I laughed so hard. If you can't appreciate that level of humor, skip this one. Movie 43 is often more scatological in its humor, which may or may not work - but in this movie it worked for me, or at least 85% of the time it worked.

Not a 10 really, but I'm pushing back against all the 1-star ratings. The cast alone raises it to a 5, even if you hated everything else about it.

  • Great adaptation of the book

For those who were fans of the book, it was a great adaptation. It was slow, but that was certainly true to the book.

The acting was excellent, and I loved the cast. Fassbender and Weisz are always winners, of course - Vikander I have enjoyed in the three movies I've seen her in. She was great when she needed to be great in this movie - there were some very dramatic and poignant scenes, and she pulled them off.

I loved the cinematography – especially the scenes filmed on the island – the constant wind! That was something which was conveyed in the book, but it's hard to keep "constant ferocious screaming wind" in your head while reading, because it would be awful if it were mentioned every paragraph, yet it's easy to forget that crucial detail while reading – the movie definitely conveyed that. Very atmospheric.

Yes, it was on the slow side - so don't watch it while drowsy, and you should be fine!
