Superman III is not a terrible superhero movie. But that is not the only category for Superman films. The relationship between Superman and Lois is romantic comedy and the relationship between Clark Kent and Lois is screwball comedy. Both romantic and screwball comedy sink or swim with the quality of the dialog. The witty back-and-forth between the main romantic couple is what makes the films work. Richard Lester doesn't have the knack for that kind of comedy. He likes to use the script as an outline and let the actors come up with their own lines. The actors try to be witty but they aren't. They need a script.
Another adventure in auto tune. I wonder who pushes for these things: is it the cast or the production people?
