Films like this much needed in each generation, so that we shouldn't forget the Pain and Sacrifice many did for our Country.
Its Bold - I don't think no other director could present like this other than Vivek Agnihotri. The film is 3 hours 20 minutes, which makes it one of the longest Indian films. However with this Extensive run time, Vivek managed to take it without much drag and lag The film revolves around 2 timelines - Pre- independence/ partition Bengal, and Current Bengal. I have never seen a movie which clearly shows the fate of Bengal on the event of Direct Action Day, Naokhali Riots (last it was Hey Ram) and never seen a movie takes a bold portrayal of Gopal Patha. Post each movie, the Cinematography, Editing, Music improved a lot for I am Buddha crew. Character mapping is excellent and casting is the best. Mithun Chakraborty, deserves an applause because he acted in a very different role. Saswata Chatterjee and Namashi Chakraborty acted very well that we will really hate their character - which is needed as well. A mismatch was Anupam Kher as Gandhi , because Eventhough his face match the Gandhi face, he was very built up in this movie with much fattier body - which we have never seen in Gandhi especially in his last stages. Saurav Das brings charisma in Patha role. Pallavi Joshi / Simrat Kaur's Bharati role was bit of exhausting as the dialogue duration is long, felt it needed a cut in the drama - and felt like it made the climax to be concluded fast, if they have trimmed of some of the dialogues they could've presented in a much more dignified climax.
On the whole, the history we learnt on Bengal on Independence era is more, A simple wiki page of Great Culcutta killings and DIrect action day will give us shivers, Vivek did tried his best to show us the brutal horror of those days, but we know that it was more.
And poetically he portrayed all of the elements into democratic values. Bengal files will be the coldest, brutal 3:20 hours of your life, atleast to see what they went through 85 years back.
