Man , I don't know if it goes back to the Saga's and the stories of old but the Nordic countries sure know how to entertain. I saw " Headhunters" in the cinema today and was totally blown away by it, so much so that I would venture to say its the best movie I've seen this year. So I looked up the director and saw that he did this one too. This guy is one to watch and thats not maybe. Set in Bergen, this movie thoroughly kept me entertained and guessing to the final scenes. I don't want to go into the movie as such as I could spoil it for everyone but suffice to say you will not be wasting your time checking this out..... .... I am the Ghost of Leif Ericson and I bid you, god natt
I was looking forward to this movie coming out as I live in Dublin and was hearing stories about Sean Penn being seen in various pubs around town when they were shooting it. However I was very disappointed with the end result. The movie is fine at the start set in Dublin but it just gets silly once he goes to the States chasing an old Nazi. I would have either set the whole movie in Dublin and forget about the Nazi carry on or set it all in the States and have Penn loose the ex rock star thing. Mixing up the two does not work in my opinion.
Also there are too many characters and story lines that just drift in and out with no real purpose. Its like the director had 2 or 3 scripts lying around and just decided to mix them all up
A complete waste of time

I don't understand the bad reviews and low ratings for this. Its the best movie I have seen in a while . Full of Gothic imagery and the wonderful acting skills of Vincent Cassel .Lots of other interesting characters and wonderful shots of the countryside of Navarra ,Spain also. I throughly enjoyed every minute of it myself. I haven't read the book so I'm not going to go into that side of it. I gave this a 9 and its rare enough I would rate a movie that high. Normally I don't bother writing reviews but I felt I had to say something here as "The Monk " is getting slated unfairly in my opinion. Don't be put off by the ratings here is all Im saying. This movie is more than worth watching.
