Years ago Ridley was one of my favorite directors, Later in life I felt that everytime he made a movie the gods flip a coin, could be a masterpiece or a total disaster. Recently though he seems to miss the mark on most of his films.
Was I excited for a Gladiator 2 movie? No, more like hoping it is not too bad. The second one felt like a cheap version of the first, same story (more or less), less interesting characters and a protagonist that is not a bad actor but he had big shoes to fill and a terrible script. Apparently the first movie had a terrible script too but they actually worked and revised it.
Too much cgi, no depth, no deep meaningful story, I felt I did not care for any of the protagonists. The actors played the part that they were given, so I cannot blame them. Connie, Denzel, even Paul did their best with the dialog and script. The 2 loons (emperors) were more of a caricature nonsense version of Comodus and terribly annoying. Pedro Pascal felt like the only one that belonged in the first movie unfortunately and not in this one. You wait 20 years to do a sequel and you end up doing this?
The only amazing thing that came out of this movie is that it made people want to rewatch the first one. What a masterpiece that was.
My expectations were low and people would have probably not compared the 2 movies so much if the story was different and not a cheap copy of the first.

Was this movie made just ti shock and turn one's stomach? If si it succeeded, other than that the plot is dumb, the ending dumber. The only actor that plays ok-ish was Channing (and I don't even like him as an actor) the rest of the cast was forgettable. Felt like it tried hard to mimic the Get Out movie's tension and it failed miserably. I don't think I have ever felt the need to write a review about a movie, whether great or terrible but this one deserved one as I have not seen yet a worse movie that was rated so high on imdb. Compared to other platforms I find myself more or less always agreeing with an IMDB score but for this one omg, like is Zoe paying and begging friends to give this pile more than 1 star? Is there some PR campaign involved? I absolutely hate it and wish there was a perfume I could use to forget it. What a terrible choice I made to also see it late in the evening, gotta watch a comedy or Shawshank to wash my brain of it.
