  • I am compelled to write a review because of just how bad it was

This plot has been done countless times before, and it's never good. Disabled man can't get sex so (someone in his immediate family usually) hires a sex-worker adjacent woman. He is an arsehole and yet, she falls in love with him. I think I can also tick off every negative stereotype about disabled people ever. Resentful, arrogant, can't get erections, unable to hold down a relationship. Moreover, and for the love of god, why did that rich as hell family not make the house accessible? Jasper literally has to be carried up the stairs because his bedroom is on the top floor. Stair lift, who? Downstairs bedroom, what? The actor also fails to remember his character is paraplegic and moves his legs multiple times. He has also been paralysed for years but can't get himself onto a bed without falling on the ground...

I also hate the sex scene between the two women with a passion. Of course they have to start scissoring (cue eye roll so big I can see my brain) and on top of that, of course the husband has to join in! Can't possibly have a sex scene unless a man is involved. On that point, why do all the sex scenes follow exactly the same script? Kiss, kiss boobs, go down on woman, woman kisses man's chest, goes down on man, penetration. Have some variety for pity's sake!

Technical points: actors are wooden, scenes are boringly long, there is no drive in action, camera is shaky when it's supposed to be still, camera moves at random points to pan and sound design for the sex scenes is..er...loud and wet and off-putting.

Terrible plot, terrible acting, terrible writing. I don't even know why this merits more than one star.

  • Tell me you've never met an autistic person...

My god, I know it was 2007 and we understand autism differently now, but seriously, how many negative stereotypes could the writer fit in?! The character of Philip Horton is written to make no eye contact, have no agency, no thoughts of his own, some kind of genius, people speak to him like he's 5 years old, or they make fun of him and barely tolerate him. Spectacularly under-researched and poorly executed. The rest of the episode was...fine but didn't seem to have much oomph behind it.

  • Very enjoyable despite some unconvincing sub-plots
