I waited with bated breath, but always had reservations for anything that comes from the Discovey stable
Star Trek is not about long fight sequences, badly delivered lines and poorly written dialogue
The attempt at humour misses the mark every time and the premise is section 31 is totally lost to flare and CGI
The leading character has chance lead the narrative and show the hidden side of section 31.
The exact opposite happens here, she is the narrative, this leads not to the hidden nature and subterfuge of section 31, but an out and out side show of violence, unnecessary long and augmented fight sequences that do not add to the story in any way
This is everything Star Trek is not, sorry folks.

I have been a life long trek fan, my collection spands 50 years, I have perspective.
This is a Patrick Stewart indulgence. He age comes through, as do his prejudices.
I became disillusioned with Discovery S2, this just follows in the same single arc, highly visual rubbish. Star Trek was "wagon train to the stars' not I man against the establishment. Destroying the canon along with my faith in the writers and produces to go back to single plot, moral led stories. Star Trek is an ideal, not a one tired man crusade.
Sorry, not good viewing.

It was always going to be stretch to reboot a classic Sci Fi series and providing you can overlook the constant disaster cycle, here is a really good roll of the dice
The original was allowed 1 big hiccup per show, here there are just a few too many
Billy Mummy would appreciate the portrayal of Will as the flawed vulnerable youngest son, who's faith in people remains undiminished, because those who Love him never let him down. Penny remains adolescent and Judy has been promoted to junior Dr to great effect.
The mother figure in Maureen , is now the lead with John taking on the character of flawed but caring Father.
Parker Posey as the reboot Dr Zachary Smith is flawless both in character ( sneaking, conniving and resourceful) and sheer acting ability, turning you inside out at very chance.
One fly in the ointment, Don West, who is remade as a self serving likeable rogue. I must confess I much preferred the staunch ally with unstinting team spirit. But he does become the ying to Smith's yang and that allows for a more balanced show.
I like it, it is fresh and well directed, with a strong cast who I believe can carry this through the asteroid field ahead
