  • Good, Very Good, and Excellent, Depending...

Frankenstein is a work that is perhaps the quintessential "monster" movie, succeeding even Dracula in that it has held its essence from multiple editions and the creep of new legends unlike Dracula.

Here, the production is superb and the story is engaging for the most part. Now, such as it is, we all suspend rationality to escape into the story, but the framework needs to have solid logistics. Stated another way, Frankenstein (and Victor) appear in places that seem unlikely.

The story is already set up for a prequel or sequel, so there may be fill-ins and flashbacks.

The production, acting, and tone were excellent for the most part, the overall story content very good, and certain story framework issues good.

This production certainly did its job for Netflix, which is the bottom line for Netflix. For us, not quite great, but good enough.

  • The Philosophy of The Original Series

William Shatner made this show, because he had an affect and cadence that was perfect. I hooked you into it.

Kirk represented instinct, McCoy represented emotion, and Spock represented logic. This is why they worked so well together, each with a different attribute.

This series (TOS) had wonderful lessons in human contradictions, hypocrisies, and dilemmas, that made it superb on many levels. Timeless.

  • It Ruined Me

Game of Thrones was so good that it ruined me for all video expressions that followed. GOT has everything: Love, drama, zombies, medieval warfare, philosophy, good v. Evil, dragons, betrayal, honor, life lessons...everything.

Seasons 1-5 were genius, killing people that no series in history ever did before. No one would ever dare to kill the certain characters, but GOT was that good. No one was safe. The rest might not be genius, but was still superb, until the last season. The last season was like someone unexpectedly telling you to finish you dinner party meal in the next 10 minutes. They closed the pressing story lines in a rush, leaving the audience unfulfilled.

The casting was genius. The story telling was genius. The pacing was genius. The character arcs were genius until the last season. But, oh, what a series it was. How GRRM had such depth and breadth to write this is like asking how Shakespeare could have such insights. Genius. Unconventional and rare genius.
