I'm a Georgia native. I hate despise loathe entirely Hollywood movies with phony southern accents. Toni Collette's phony southern accent nearly ruined this movie for me. None of the jurors feigned a hillbilly accent. People in Savannah are low country southern. Not hill country southern. There's a difference.

The story itself is interesting and Nicholas Hoult is a talented young actor. JK Simmons is always extra good in everything he does. This is no exception.

It's always refreshing to see a new and original storyline when most of the movies this last year were reboots and prequels or sequels.

This is worth the time. Phony accents notwithstanding.

It is hard to watch as this young man descends into addiction and crime. You want to grab him and shake him. It is a lot like how it feels to watch a beloved family member in the same downward spiral. Tom Holland is a very talented young actor and it's good to see him move on to some challenging dramatic roles like this and "The Devil All the Time." This is not an easy rom-com or a costume drama. You'll have to work for this one. But it's worth the time and the effort.
