This movie was awkward in every way - zero chemistry or sexual tension between the leads, clumsy sex scenes, stilted dialogue, lack of charisma or any other kind of saving grace really. I can see what kind of movie it was aiming to be but it failed spectacularly, in every aspect. I will give props to Antonio Banderas for delivering his lines with emotion. His rendition of "what the ***?" pretty well summarises the movie, in a nutshell. Nicole Kidman is a fine actress lost in a bad script and poor direction. The young actor who played the intern may be better in a different role. However he is sadly miscast in this one. As a movie experience, this does not deliver anything worth remembering.
I don't know what the negative reviewers were expecting. This is not a light and fluffy rom com. Don't let the kooky title and intro confuse you. This is a love story for the ages. An epic, heart wrenching love that is worth sacrificing friends and family for. A passionate love that is all consuming, transcending all of society's expectations.
The male and female leads are fully committed to their roles and the chemistry is palpable between them. Moon Sang Min as the ambitious and suspicious brother-in-law to be is the shining star, although the leading lady Jeong Jeon Seo (from "Burning" fame) holds her own. This is by-and-large a family melodrama, with the romance angle building and taking over the storyline.
9/10 on the acting, directing, styling and soundtrack. Writing left a bit to be desired but all is forgiven by the ending. Don't miss this amazing drama - it will give you all the feels! I'm going to watch it again soon, just to see the full range of emotions flitting across Moon Sang Min's face. Who is this guy? He could be South Korea's James Bond - smooth, suave and sweet. A deadly combination!!
