The best thing about this movie is the JesstheParanoid YouTube channel that was created to market this movie 4 years ago.
Honestly I feel like they had a completely different idea for this film originally, but halfway through the production, it got scrapped and recycled into what we got as the end product. So many things in the movie feel like they were connected to something before and now simply aren't.
The more I think about the movie the more issues I find. So I'll stop now before I lower the score to 4 stars.

For 1989 this movie is visually and technically fascinating. But these 2h50m felt like 3 different movies where neither has an ending.
First third is a mystery movie which was honestly very fun, second third is just a boring and generic soldier guy is the antagonist trope, the last third is a whimsical movie for kids or something?
I don't know, the storyline is all over the place and there's no satisfying conclusion to be had.

This show is just boring. Simple as that.
It feels like watching later seasons of The Walking Dead where you only see zombies in the opening cinematic and the rest of the episode is just drama between humans.
Here you get a bit of the alien in the first episode and episode 5 which is technically episode 0 because it happens before the first episode.
The only reason they put that episode on the fifth spot is to remind the audience that we are actually watching a TV show set in the Alien universe.
Everything else is just drama between ~11 year olds who got uploaded to adult synt bodies. That's all.
State of the art bodies that apparently have everything they see and hear recorded, but nobody uses that when it matters. And they are literally doing everything unsupervised. They don't even have any alert systems in the facility to trigger when something bad happens to them. There are so many plot holes and so many conveniences that it's insane.
Nothing and nobody is serious. Everything is a joke. So many cringe one liners as well. Just watch Alien: Romulus if you want to scratch the Alien itch for something "modern" in this franchise or play Alien Isolation game.
I am definitely not coming back for Season 2 if it ever happens.
