I've watched every episode of TWD, Both seasons of Daryl, Dead City and The Ones who live so I like to think I have a pretty rounded view of the franchise.
My feelings were that TWD should have ended a good 2 seasons earlier as creating new gangs and conflicts out of nowhere became tiresome after a while and didn't further the storyline I actually started watching FTWD but gave up on it after season 2 as the characters bored me to be honest. I've found Daryl's spin off far more entertaining as there is genuine intrigue as to how the rest of the world fared with the outbreak and it reminded me a lot of the Fallout game series which was based solely in the USA and then the unofficial addon of Fallout London which gave a whole new look on the franchise from a slightly different perspective of England. Daryl's story has more mileage in it as he now travels to different countries, the UK for season 3 hence my Fallout analogy. Dead City has been a mixed bag to be honest. Neegan is portrayed as a conflicted dictator in essence. Maggie as a mother in perpetual turmoil which does wear thin after a while to be honest. What wears more are Ginny and Hershal, the whiny kids. Never have I wished more for walkers to make them a meal than with these 2 unlikeable brats. I found nothing particularly redeeming about them as characters and because of that it spoils the show for me. They are the Scrappy Doo's of this spin off meaning unnecessary to have and spoiling every plan set out.
That aside, the show is OK but I'm still unsure why methane is this gaseous gold they think it is. Surely food, water, shelter and being safe are the top criteria. They can create fire already thus cooking food and generating heat so why this fatal obsession with methane? Many illogical things occur in this series like a handful of outsiders that think they can overthrow the whole of Manhattan or an old lady that seems to command fear from hundreds of followers. It's a basic factions set up with comic book gangs with certain traits. Although I will watch season 3 and 4 which I believe will be the final season, Daryl for me is the better spin off.
