  • It could have gone really wrong...

It could have gone really wrong... luckily a lot of things went just right. I'll be honest, I was ready to be disappointed (thinking Indiana jones, star wars and other franchise disappointments), I was pleasantly mistaken.

Franco manages to concoct sentences without dumbfounded pauses and makes faces that resemble some semblance of intelligence, or at least enough not to jeopardize the movie.

The CG chimps are more than passable and at times very believable. The filming, setting and plausibility of scenarios have all pistons firing.

The writing doesn't need to be spectacular, just enough to succeed. It was... well, just right. If you overwrite it, it hits the fan. If you underwrite it goes bust.

It keeps you interested, entertained, even at times heart warming, and ultimately satisfied - which has become a rare commodity with blockbusters.

  • I rolled my eyes some...

You get the pace of the movie the fist 5-10 minutes in: its gonna be a slow crawl of a film. But you bear the drudgery and hope it comes to a decisive climax and everything endured will makes sense and reward you at the end.

Then you get blasted with national geographic footage, in slow motion lethargy, chalk full of cgi cell division (I'll say it again - CELL DIVISION) and dinosaurs... and this goes on for 20-30 excruciating minutes. And Im a sci-fi junkie but I seriously thought about leaving at that point. It was just way too excessive.

The good news is, once people start showing up again, we finally get to see the film we actually came to see. I enjoyed the mechanics of the story telling; skipping from frame to frame like sorting through memories; recalling bits and pieces, some standing out more than others; from his father's hand on his shoulder to lager themes like crime and death. I also appreciated the way it was shot, as if from the point of view of an adolescent boy. You remember what it was like to be a child perceiving your parents, siblings, and the general awareness of the world around you.

So it wasn't a total dud of a film, it just wasted a lot of time expressing simple concepts with abstract, long drawn out obscurities that come off vain and overdone.

I also felt the ending was unsatisfying, so I understand how some might say it was a pointless movie. However, when it was on point, it was effectively brilliant.

  • Jesus and Ben Linus!

Awesome pairing of Jesus and Ben Linus. Love the play on Ben and "numbers" again, working towards a mysterious goal and making Jesus Borne do the dirty work!

Pretty decent, loads of great actors, great concept, well shot.

The only real problem is the dialog; everything the characters say is way too obvious, too forward... kinda dumbed down. Its like they're still trying to remember their lines or something. Weird pauses between breaths, eyes looking to the right like their concentrating on something else. Hopefully they can make adjustments as the show goes on because its really distracting.

Its still a worthwhile show, it has sentiments of Batman without the suit and the ridiculous mcgruff voice. I hope they keep it going.
