As long as the music is playing, this kaleidoscopic panorama of the youth movement in late 60's in NYC is visually and sonically interesting , but take away the music and it is a mess. Fortunately there is pretty much non stop beatles tunes set against backdrops both show businessy and psychedelic.

The plot is subpar (when it is not non-existent) and the two lead romantic characters dont have much chemistry together, and the weighty subjects of anti-war protest and drug use never find firm footing in the rambling story.

If you would like to see beatles tunes performed in imaginative ways you might like it, if you need a story to go with it dont bother.

Workmanlike recounting of Eisenhowers command of allied forces in North Africa and Europe. Robert Duvall and Lee Remick are excellent as Ike and his close wartime friend, his driver and secretary Kay Summersby.

Pretty much a must see for history buffs interested in the period.

The combat scenes are sparse , but this miniseries covers all the bases.

As a film its a little too long for the content, but the pull of "being there" at such momentous decisions will be a lure for many viewers.

Was multiple emmy nominated with one win.

The best thing about this film is the dreariness of the lives, which seems true to the time. And the photography, music, and battle scenes are excellent. But overall , outside of the fighting, little to recommend this. Heston's is a one note character, and Richard Boone, apparently his right hand man, barely speaks 20 words in the whole film.

The main plot, which concerns the war lord claiming the right to have sex with a village bride on her wedding night, is distasteful, and to make it worse is most likely historically inaccurate.

Rosemary Forsythe, a starlet at the time, is a real beauty.

Final verdict -- impressively made film, but crude, cruel and pretty boring.
