  • MAJOR Faults with Actual History

I read Margret Georges book many years ago and did not even realize this miniseries existed. It's clear she didn't write the screenplay. While I don't recall all aspects of the book, she is pretty concise with her history and the errors in this movie are too glaring.

In the first 20 mins or so, there was such an omission of history I almost turned it off, but the saving grace is Timothy Dalton. He is a great Julis Caesar. Caesar chased Pompey to Egypt to finish the civil war. Pompey had fled to Egypt after his last defeat and was the last domino in Caesers quest for power. Pompey and Caesar were once allies and he had been married to Caesers daughter, Julia. Though there's more the the story, Ptolemy basically had Pompey executed when he landed in Egypt as way to gain favor with Caeser over Cleopatra and presented his head to Caesar, who was shocked and saddened. This incident was huge in history as it paved the way to Caesers dictatorship and moved him to Cleopatra. Yet, this was completely left out. They did briefly mention Julia in a very odd way.

Next up, Cleopatra had her sister Arsinoe killed in jail. In fact, Caesar took Arsinoe to Rome and paraded her in his Triumph. She garnered sympathy from the Roman people and was exiled. It was Marc Antony who ultimately killed her years later. Why even bother with a scene where Cleopatra has her killed?

When Caesar was murdered, Octavian was 18 and not even in Rome. Yet on this show, he looks 40 and is part of the plot to assassinate Caesar. Octavia also vowed to hunt the killers down. Does that sound like a conspirator? While we are on the Ides of March, Julis Caesar was killed on the floor of the senate, not the steps. Though it looks more dramatic on the steps, So I'll let them have this one.

The sets were good for 1999, and again, Timothy Dalton is a good Caesar. Cleopatra was a highly educated, intelligent, shrewd politician. This didn't really come across very well. Billy Zane appeared to be a good choice for Marc Antony as well, but I just couldn't watch the second episode. I know how it ends...but maybe the writers of the movie don't!

It's ok I guess if you're snowed in with no internet or cable, you don't care about the actual history and this is your only DVD.

  • Just Couldn't Get Into It

It was ok, but knowing the characters so well and seeing every episode many times, most of the episodes on the spin-offs and all the movies before these ones, it was too...predictable in the character building? Not sure. Maybe when they said Lt. Uhura didn't have a first name? She does, it's Nyota. Some respect for the ground breaking character!

Comparing Star Trek to Star Wars is just goofy. I'm a huge Star Wars fan too. The only similarities is that they are set in space. Both George Lucas and Gene Roddenberry were genius in their own right. I'm guessing Star Trek had an influence on George Lucas when he wrote Star Wars, considering it was a decade before A New Hope.

  • 10+ Years on Air is Lucrative

This show drives me crazy. I swoop in every so often and it's the exact same as three seasons ago. Zilch.

It's clear the only treasure being made by the bros is the money being paid by the network, syndication, merch, name recognition for other ventures and the tourist dollars being made from Oak Island Tours, which they own.

Can't do it anymore, because I no longer care. There is nothing compelling about it. I haven't watched regularly for several seasons, but as I said, will check it out to see if they finally found some sort of something. Even Ancient Aliens makes the same thing more intriguing! Done!
