Important topic requiring serious consideration by some of the experts included here (Tim Gallaudet, Richard Dolan).
Sadly the filmmakers disparity in commentaries caused the films downfall. Ranging from aforementioned respected experts to the lax adaptation of the Andy and Anthony comedy show, wasn't sufficient to maintain viewers attention.
Overall filmed as a documentary, this ended up downgraded to science fiction/drama? Btw- the contents are neither. Viewers might contend a few guests might qualify as comedy.
Sorry, I wish you would've quit while you were ahead. Others nations, do offer the respectful service the subject matter warrants.

This is a wonderful examination of First Amendment Rights in small town America, that I wish I´d seen sooner. An intimate and emotional slice of life documentary for millions of Americans living in immigrant families or first generation American families or any-town, small town America. Im so heart broken to see how the Trump era gave permission to certain people to set aside our Constitution, acting on their ugliest impulses as a choice. "Some people may never understand what the power of hate and evil can do to people...."- a film segment that refers to white supremacy groups as evoking memories from Cambodian Killing Fields during Khmer Rouge genocide. Powerful, timely documentary during age of Donald Trump. Unless born w/indigenous bloodlines, all Americans are immigrant families; the only difference being which generations immigrated. In the South West, learning SW states histories teaches how many of our Mexican neighbors are indigenous Americans.
We all believed in the words held by our Statue of Liberty. Its up to us, to protect that ideal, with every breath and ounce of strength we have. I sadly took off 1 star because of the Production company's limited marketing. I wish it'd been marketed more broadly. Also living in a small town myself, I didn't hear about this wonderful film when it was new. Fortunately in 2025, it's still fresh, relevant.

Already a recipient of Emmy awards, this important, well made, well written, well acted film will stand the test of time so long as America continues to have lifetime appointments for SCOTUS members. Everyone should see this. This should also serve as an educational tool in classrooms for age appropriate students.
I unfortunately didn't see this until more than 7years (seven) after its release. Presently our SCOTUS nominations and confirmations have been hijacked by conservative super PACs where one of sub plots/themes from this movie predominates our political reality: Truth doesn't matter, only winning matters. Fortunately, we do have more women in both the Congress and Senate. Unfortunately we have an administration thats comfortable flaunting their male conquests for grabbing women by their reproductive anatomy. Perhaps this present political era, makes our longing for this as a dramatic norm more than ever.
Im old enough to remember this hearing in real time, additionally recall Jos Biden's later reminiscence regarding his desire to have given Anita Hill more equitable position during the hearings. The film is interesting for its examination of the past psyche which drove the convoluted drive to win for the nominee.
